Fine Body of dancers step up at the Lowry

Grupo Corpo, literally Body Group in English, return to the UK for the first time in nearly 10 years, with Sem Mim at the Lowry in Salford this Friday and Saturday.

It all serves up Brazilian carnival combining the precision of classical ballet with Latin dance rhythms.

Both pieces are choreographed by artistic director Rodrigo Pederneiras, Grupo Corpo’s full-time choreographer.

Parabelo is his most Brazilian creation.

Grupo Corpo were founded in 1975 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and debuted their first work Maria Maria, to critical and commercial success, in 1976.

The work spent six years on the stage and toured 14 countries.

Today they have created 36 choreographies and given more than 2,300 performances.

The company maintains 10 ballets in its repertoire and gives 70 performances a year in places as distinct as Iceland, South Korea, Italy and the USA.
