On June 17, The Bard’s shortest play, a slapstick farce of mistaken identity, will be performed by the all-male cast in Leighton’s stunning gardens.

The performance combines jocosity with dramatic and sinister undertones.

Described as a riotous train of misunderstandings, seduction and pursuit, this colourful and entertaining romp is perfect for all fans of Stratford’s famous son, new or old!

The production is directed by Worcestershire-based Michael Dyer and the original music has been specifically written by folk singer/songwriter, composer and poetry anthropologist Johnny Coppin.

A spokesman for the Players said that, after the recent inclement weather, “fingers were firmly crossed for a balmy summers’ evening, but come rain or shine the show will begin at 7:30pm”.

Grounds open at 6pm, giving visitors an opportunity to roll out their picnic blankets, crack open the cool box and make a night of it.

Suzie Reynolds, owner of Leighton Hall said “These evening are a delight.

“The Festival Players bring Shakespeare to life. The shows are never longer than two hours but live in the memory for much longer.

“The music is fantastic and the audience always feels such a big part of the production”.

This is the first of two visits from the Festival Players this summer.

If a classic tragedy is more your thing, then Macbeth is staged at Leighton on July 25.
