Ince is probably best known for presenting the BBC radio show The Infinite Monkey Cage with physicist Brian Cox, but he has been a stand-up since the early 1990s and has a string of TV comedy writing and acting credits to his name.

In stand-up, Ince has made his name turning a keen observational eye to politics, science, religion and culture. He first came to critical attention as part of the Edinburgh Fringe show ‘Rubbernecker’, alongside Stephen Merchant, Jimmy Carr and Ricky Gervais in 2001.

In 2011 The Infinite Monkey Cage earned Ince, along with Professor Brian Cox, a Gold Award for Best Speech Programme at the 2011 Sony Radio Awards.

The new show finds Ince dipping a toe into the inner workings of the human mind. From Freud and Jung to Laing and Milgram, from rats after rewards to insanity cured by ink spots, Robin looks at a century of psychiatry, psychology and sundry brain dabblings, finding out along the way just how hard is it to be a self-conscious ‘sane’ being on planet Earth.

Tickets £12 from Malcolm’s Musicland (01257 264362).
