Casson and a cuppa with Friends of the Grand

There's a chance to meet comedy hero Johnnie Casson '“ hailed as the comedians' comedian - thanks to Friends of The Grand.

All are welcome to the Friends coffee morning on Thursday May 19 for a get together over a cuppa and cake and a slice of comedic life courtesy of Mr Casson.

The Friends feature a different guest speaker from either the theatre or show business at their coffee mornings so given the popularity it’s as well to book in advance at the box office or by calling 01253 290190. You do not need to be a Friend of the Grand to attend (although it helps Blackpool’s dowager theatre if you do!).

The Friends now number 3,000 plus from the very first hands on locals who mucked it from the very start of the campaign - in 1973 - to save theatre from demolition.

What’s more comedy legend Casson has been involved pretty much from the start, part of an elite band of early Friends who included Violet Carson (Ena Sharples), Alistair Cooke, Ken Dodd, Leslie Crowther, Tim West and Prunella Scales, and Billy Pearce. Visit the theatre and you’ll find the Friends as active as ever, raising funds from subscriptions and social events and with volunteers front of house selling programmes and welcoming visitors.
