The venue has teamed up with Michael Vale, best known for his designs for two of Britain’s most innovative theatre companies, to create a festive show with original songs.

In her pursuit of a rabbit in a hurry, Alice finds herself tumbling into another world – where March Hares take tea, caterpillars give puzzling advice, and a grinning Cheshire Cat appears and disappears like magic.

The Octagon’s intimate in-the-round theatre space will be transformed to create rebellious, energetic and contemporary entertainment.

Director Elizabeth Newman says: “I am thrilled to be working with Michael on this show, having admired his work with Kneehigh for years and his work as an associate artist of ‘Told by an Idiot’.

“Michael’s capacity to collaborate and tell epic stories is limitless, and we have many other surprises in store.”

The show runs from next Friday until January 10 and is suitable for ages five and above.

Tickets £9.50-£22.50, box Office: 01204 520661, or www.octagonbolton.co.uk/Alice
