Written by the critically-acclaimed actress Maxine Peake, Beryl is the witty and charming tale of a true sporting legend.

Beryl Charnock dominated world cycling in the 1960s, and with her husband Charlie, her daughter Denise and her cycling club at her side, became five times world pursuit champion, 13 times national champion, and twice the road-racing world champion.

Yorkshire lass Beryl would outwork the men in the rhubarb fields, outclass all-comers (on two wheels) on the road, and still find time to over-knit young Denise an enviable cycling jumper.

Beryl: The Greatest Woman On Two Wheels is at Lowther Pavilion on Wednesday, September 23, doors 7.30pm (the play runs approximately two hours with one interval).

Tickets £14.50, £12.50 concs, call 01253 794221.
