Journey’s End is considered one of the greatest war plays ever written, and is being staged to commemorate the outbreak of World War One a century ago this year.

Based on RC Sherriff’s own experience of the First World War, the play is written with the authenticity and compassion of a soldier who became intimately acquainted with the nightmare of life in the trenches, and the extraordinary courage of those who fought there.

Meanwhile, Early One Morning is written by Bolton playwright Les Smith.

It is based on the true story of 26-year-old soldier James Smith from Bolton, who fought in some of the fiercest battles of the ‘Great War’; he was wounded, promoted, and received two Good Conduct Medals.

A brave soldier who would eventually be put on trial for his life – by his own side.

Tickets for Journey’s End and Early One Morning are on sale now from £26.50 - £10, book on 01204 520661 or at www.octagonbolton.co.uk
