As you bike it at Tower

The unique World First cycling Shakespeare tour arrives tonight, where they will perform Macbeth at Rufford Old Hall near Ormskirk.

They then ride to Hoghton Tower near Preston to perform The Comedy Of Errors on Saturday and Macbeth on Sunday.

Next up is Giggleswick for a perform The Comedy of Errors on Monday, June 30.

The HandleBards, presented by Peculius, are cycling all the way from London to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh, performing Macbeth and The Comedy Of Errors at 45 heritage
venues along the 2,000 mile tour.

The “fun, environmentally friendly and slightly mad project”, supported by the Arts Council, is a world first.

Shakespeare himself performed at Rufford Old Hall in 1585, so they’re in good company.

At Hoghton Tower, just four bicycles will carry all the set, props, costumes and camping equipment to perform two of Shakespeare’s greatest plays.

The HandleBards do Shakespeare differently – performing with eight very sore legs, and using bikes to power various surprises and contraptions on stage, while playing all the parts between them. The Bards will be accompanied by a live local band.

Saturday, June 28 The Comedy of Errors and Sunday, June 29 Macbeth: Tickets: £14/children £10.

The performances are outdoors and people are welcome to bring a picnic and low-backed chairs, rugs or cushions to sit on.

Dressing for the weather is advised, but avoid umbrellas as they can block the sound and other people’s view.

No refunds will be provided for adverse weather.

At Hoghton Tower, due to the historic nature of the venue, there are some areas which can be difficult to access in a wheelchair or for those with other mobility difficulties.
