Acting out in the open air

Picnics, Pimm’s and outdoor plays are on the way to Lytham with tickets for the summer season at Lytham Hall in June, July and August on sale this week.

Demand is already high for the programme of four plays presented by two touring companies.

Chapterhouse Theatre Company launch the season and their own nationwide tour on Friday June 13. The Lincoln-based company will present Richard Main’s production of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, adapted for the stage by Laura Turner.

Illyria return to Lytham Hall after three successful shows last summer with 
director Oliver Gray’s production of Pirates of Penzance on Sunday July 6.

Oliver is looking forward to being on the bill once again.

“We love the enthusiasm of our loyal followers on the Lancashire coast”, he said,

Just 10 days later, on Tuesday July 15, the Hall will host Illyria’s production of Macbeth, which will then go on to play around 50 open air dates at venues throughout the country.

To complete the season, Illyria return on the afternoon of Bank Holiday Sunday August 24 with the Roald Dahl children’s favourite George’s Marvellous Medicine, following last year’s well received The Twits (pictured above).

Season organiser Julian Wilde is delighted with the initial response from the public to this summer’s programme.

“The variety in this programme is appealing and it’s excellent for Lytham Hall to be hosting the opening performance of Sense and Sensibility.”

Tickets are £13, concs £10 for seniors and students and £6.50 for school children.
