The Ruts’ rhythm section’s special blend of dub and punk

The Ruts DC, formed in 1981 by the rhythm section and guitarist of The Ruts, play 53 Degrees next Friday, September 6.

The Ruts’ singles include Babylon’s Burning, Jah War, Something That I Said and Staring At The Rude Boys, along with albums The Crack, Grin And Bear It and an acclaimed John Peel Session.

The hugely influential DJ supported the band from the off, giving debut single In A Rut airplay.

The punk/dub crossover band’s original line up came to an abrupt halt following the death of front-man Malcolm Owen.

The booming rhythm section of Dave Ruffy and John ‘Segs’ Jennings came forward with The Ruts DC (DC from the Latin ‘De Capo’ meaning ‘from the beginning’).

In 2007 The Ruts reformed for the first time in 27 years, performing a benefit for original guitarist Paul Fox after his diagnosis with lung cancer.

Henry Rollins took over vocal duties and The Damned, Misty In Roots, UK Subs, Tom Robinson, John Otway and more supported them.

The band will debut material from Rhythm Collision Vol. 2, and will be joined by keyboard and guitar virtuoso Seamus Beaghen, along with some very special guests.
