Special Staple’s Rude night out

Jamaican-born Neville, who became famous with The Specials and Fun Boy Three, brings The Neville Staple Band to The Platform in Morecambe this Saturday night.

Neville Staple is credited with changing the face of pop music not only once but twice.

His recent biography ‘Original Rude Boy’ tells of his involvement with the 1970s Sound System Scene and childhood in Jamaica.

Later he was a critical figure in the UK ska scene as part of iconic band The Specials.

“I still love performing and making music,” said Neville, 60, earlier this year. “I have no plans to stop and I’ll go on for as long as I can.”

Also on at the seafront venue this week is Jaleo Flamenco on Thursday night and comedian Lewis Schaffer on Friday.

The Jaleo show ‘A Compás’ (in rhythm) is described as “brimming over with the intoxicating rhythms, palpable energy and joie de vivre which has become synonymous with the company”.

Award winning New York comic Schaffer is described as “combining the comedy genes of Joan Rivers and Jackie Mason with the relevance of the freshest British comedians”.

He was the house compere of the Comedy Cellar and the Boston Comedy Club in New York. This show is free, a voluntary donation will be asked for at the end.
