Ska-ed for life at De Palma show

Fans of ska should be flocking to Preston’s New Continental pub on Friday 26th April for the debut appearance of one of the region’s greatest tributes to the genre.

Blackpool band De Palma pay their first visit to the South Meadow Lane pub for a rocking night of the best in Two Tone tunes.

Passionate ska musician Hector The Toad, who was the founder member of another great Blackpool band, Ska Face, formed Ska Face in early 2010 and saw them quickly rise to become one of the North West’s most acclaimed ska bands, attracting passionate audiences of dedicated fans of the genre.

Already, they have attracted special guests to perform with them from among the greats, including Specials trombonist Rico Rodriguez, famous for playing the iconic intro to their hit, Ghost Town.

And they have also performed with another Specials icon, vocalist Roddy Radiation.

But Hector broke away and put together De Palma, with help from another fellow Ska Face star, Angel, the band’s saxophone player.

In a nod to their former band, their name is taken from movie director and screenwriter Brian De Palma, one of whose works was 
the classic Mafia movie, Scar Face.

Tonight De Palma pay a visit to Preston to show us what they are made of.

Setting out to blend the best of roots rock and reggae with the infectious ska tunes which made their name, De Palma features a six-piece line-up with a sound that has a harder edge and a more varied tune base.

Rhythms are provided by Hector’s bass along with the drums of ex-One Way System drummer Tommy Couch, while Blackpool guitar hero Rob Hulme and virtuoso keyboard player Mike Taylor add their own stamp by giving the sound a rich tone and depth.

Ska Face fans are sure to love them – and they promise to play many of their favourite ska classics, along with a selection of other tunes from The Clash, Bob Marley, 10CC and Elvis Costello.

Hector said: “We can’t wait to get on stage and give our fans a treat.

“We put everything into our live shows. We love the New Continental and this is going to be a really great show – I can promise you that!”

Support comes from Addictive Philosophy, a heavily ska-influenced outfit who play their own original tunes, which vary from mellower rock songs to full throttle thrash,.
