The Back Water Blues have been together for 14 years with Colin Walker the band’s frontman, lead guitarist and lead vocalist for all that time.
The trio are based in Stockport and are very busy gigging in their own back yard.
So it was a privilege to hear them perform at The Minstrel in Eaves Green last Thursday – and the audience at BJ’s Rock in the Blues Club thought so, too, as they were given a great reception.
Colin puts his heart and soul into his beloved blues.
Gifted with a voice that just lends itself to the blues genre and wicked in the guitar department, he can do no wrong.
The rhythm section was on fire as well, steadying the ship with controlled power, thanks to the booming rock solid bass guitar of Arthur Cowdrey and the busy drums of Mark Isherwood.
Jeff Levy Makor came as guest guitarist and he has known the band for years.
A guitarist of the highest calibre, he brings to the table a free style Santana feel to complement the band.
The band’s first set included covers from The Allman Bros, Bad Company, Howlin’ Wolf, Bobby Charles, Free and Jimi Hendrix.
The second set saw the band deliver covers from Ten Years After, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Fleetwood Mac, Santana, BB King and Neil Young.
This was a show to savour – a great night of the blues.
