One Lauda Sion

Preston Cecilian Choral Society’s charismatic Italian musical director Marco Fanti will conduct the choir in a performance of two “undeservedly neglected pieces” on Saturday, March 15 in St Michael’s Church, 
Ashton.

Marco Fanti selected Schumann’s Requiem and Mendelssohn’s Lauda Sion as they are, in his view, little-known gems of the Romantic-era repertoire which deserve to be heard as widely by British audiences as they are in Europe. The concert will also include Mendelssohn’s well-known chorus O for the Wings of Dove.

The choir is delighted to welcome as their special guest performer Timothy Jackson, principal horn player with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, who will join his father, the choir’s long-standing accompanist Graham Jackson, to perform Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro for horn and piano.

Tickets for the Cecilians’ concert cost £10, or £8 for concessions.

Timothy Jackson will also be appearing in Preston a few days earlier, when he performs Richard Strauss’s Horn Concert No. 2 with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in the Guild Hall on Sunday afternoon, March 9.
