Nice n Sleazy does it all again

Hardcore pioneers Discharge join ska legend Roddy Radiation, former lead guitarist and songwriter with The Specials and 1977 punk survivors 999, to offer fans of punk and ska three unmissable nights of music.

The event, again centred on Trimpell Social Club, will see more than 50 bands play over three days from Friday. Camping facilities will also be available.

Topping the bill Friday (9.30pm slot on a 5pm to 2am night) are Discharge (top). Formed in 1977 in Stoke-on-Trent, Discharge are widely regarded as Britain’s first hardcore punk band, and have been cited as an influence by bands including Metallica, Sepultura, Napalm Death and Anthrax.

There is music throughout both days, Saturday and Sunday, with 9.30pm slots for 999 (below) and then Roddy Radiation (right) and the SkaBilly Rebels.

Veterans of the 1976 punk scene, 999 are still led by original vocalist Nick Cash, with fellow founder members Keith Lucas and Guy Days also on duty throughout (Arturo Bassick of The Lurkers took over on bass in 1993).

On Sunday night, a legend of the British Two Tone scene is centre stage, as Roddy Byers, better known as Roddy Radiation, former lead guitar with The Specials, brings new band the SkaBilly Rebels to bear. Roddy wrote some of The Specials’ best known and loved songs including Rat Race, Concrete Jungle and Hey Little Rich Girl, but has a rockabilly pedigree stretching right back to 1975.

The Rebels came together in 2003 and perform all original Roddy songs, some Specials classics, some new, all an energetic blast of rockabilly-ska fusion.
