My delicious burger was just jaw popping...

Last week my fiancée Nicola made international news headlines after she dislocated her jaw while eating a burger.

That’s a strange sentence to type out but one which is true – if you don’t believe me just search for her name in Google!

Fortunately I merited little mention – save for the fact I finished said burger, while she wondered why her jaw was so sore.

What a gentleman I am.

Thankfully, following the expert care of medics at Royal Liverpool Hospital she is back on fine form, and there should be no lasting negative effects.

With this in mind she put any worries of further injury to one side as I told her it is best to confront your fears.

We headed to the Miller & Carter Steakhouse on top of Parbold Hill.

Now I know it’s mean, but Nicola is a good sport and I had to rub it in, so my order was obvious – the most impressive looking burger on the menu!

I picked the Bacon & Cheese West Country Beef, with crispy bacon and Monterey Jack cheese at £10.50, and a side of guacamole at 50p.

It came in a toasted bun with iceberg lettuce and tomato, with sides of seasoned fries and a pot of coleslaw.

The beef was absolutely delicious and the fries were excellent – a great start!

To prove she hadn’t lost her appetite, Nicola chose the 14oz T-Bone steak at £21.50.

It was recommended she have it medium rare ‘for full flavour’, however, it was very much on the rare side. This was fine for her tastes, but somebody else might want to have it more well done.

Nevertheless, the steak was juicy and really tasty – I quote: “One of the best steaks I have had in a restaurant”.

The choice of sides was also great, as it meant you could really adapt the meal. Nicola opted for sweet potato fries, which were chunky, well-cooked and seasoned.

To go with the steak she chose Bearnaise sauce, which came in a pot, creating a handy dip for the wedges.

Another selection was the sauce for her ‘lettuce wedge’ – a quirky way of presenting salad. Nicola picked a strong thousand island dressing.

The restaurant itself is very smart and comfortable, and we were seated with a wonderful view out over the hill.

As I tucked into a generous portion of banoffee pie (£4.75) and Nicola a large glassful of ‘Fresh Mango Mess’ (£4.95) – fruit slices and purée with meringue and whipped cream – we were both very impressed.

As the designated driver I had a solitary pint of Peroni at £3.99 and Nicola enjoyed two glasses of Cooper red wine at £3.50 each.

The bill in total came to £53.19.

Miller & Carter clearly are specialists in quality steak but the little extras made the experience for us – and there was no need for medical attention!
