Mozart meistro’s super-rare Conti showcase

Few acts can get away with just using a first name, but indie favourite Lawrence – appearing at the Continental with Go-Kart Mozart tomorrow (Friday, October 4) does just that.

His musical projects span three decades, from the revered guitar pop of Felt in the 1980s via the glam-rock propelled Denim in the 1990s to his current winning project, the near-unclassifiable Go Kart Mozart.

Lawrence’s work under various guises has earned him a significant cult status and a reputation as a determined and uncompromising outsider.

Yet Lawrence, right, is considered by some – Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, Jarvis Cocker and Belle & Sebastian’s Stewart Murdoch to name but a few – to be an unsung musical genius, a legendary one-of-a-kind pop maverick.

Go-Kart Mozart’s album ‘On the Hot Dog Streets’ was released to rapturous reception last year, anticipation stoked by Paul Kelly’s ‘Lawrence of Belgravia’ documentary film covering its conception.

A new album, ‘Mozart’s Mini Mart’ is in the pipeline and the Conti gig one of just four for the band in 2013 and the only one in the North West.

Go-Kart Mozart plus The Oreoh!s and Hot Vestry are at the Continental on Friday, October 4, with advance tickets £10 from the venue, Action Records Preston and wegottickets.com
