Moroccan film prompts questions

Deborah Perkin will take part in a question and answer session following a screening of Bastards at the venue’s cinema on Tuesday.

Her film tells the story of Moroccan woman Rabha El Haimer, right, and her struggle to gain legal recognition for her daughter Salma and paints a vivid portrait of the lives of women in Morocco, caught between the demands of Islamic tradition and their desires for individual rights in a male-dominated society.

Deborah has worked in TV, radio and online on subjects from criminal psychology in My Son the Killer to archaeology on BBC2 in China’s Terracotta Army to music in Quincy Jones: The Many Lives of Q.

To make this film she shared a room with collaborator, Nora Fakin, in a Casablanca slum for eight weeks.
