The Oscar winning, star-studded film directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and featuring Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen and Robert Duvall, will be screened on Picnic Cinema’s huge outdoor screen on Saturday 24.

A spokeswoman for the organisers said: “The Picnic Cinema approach is to do more than just show films, there is a special party atmosphere at all these boutique cinema events.

“So expect some ‘explosive action’ and some other surprises.

“Audiences are asked to bring a picnic or barbecue and their camping chairs to watch the film, as well as their tents.”

Gisburn Forest is the last stop on Picnic Cinema’s successful tour across the north of England this summer.

Heather Walker, project manager of Eden Arts, said: “Dressing up is very much encouraged at all the cinema events, so we would like to see army uniforms aplenty at Gisburn. There are themed fun and games while everyone tucks in, and the films start as dusk descends. To watch Apocalypse Now in a forest is going to be madly brilliant!”

Adrian Lochhead, director of Eden Arts and Picnic Cinema, said “It’s just the maddest idea, taking our huge cinema screen, plonking it down in the middle of a forest or an extraordinary gothic castle, and screening classic films.”

Tickets are £25 which includes camping. See website www.picniccinema.co.uk.

Eden Arts is based in Penrith in Cumbria and is supported by Arts Council England.
