I Am Kloot star solo for city

The frontman comes to the South Meadow Lane pub’s Arts Space on Friday, September 6 – as his 14-year-old trio celebrate making the Top 10 in the UK album chart for the first time earlier this year with their album, Let It All In.

He founded I Am Kloot in 1999, recruiting Pete Jobson and Andy Hargreaves, using their talents to create sparse and beautiful arrangements for an impressive back catalogue of songs he had written over many years.

Their acclaimed 2001 debut album, Natural History, was produced by Elbow’s Guy Garvey, but its release was delayed for more than a year by record company problems.

An eponymous follow-up in 2004 and third album Gods and Monsters in 2005 slowly earned them a dedicated following and they could pack venues across the country, although mainstream success still eluded them.

But, when their 2010 record, The Sky At Night, was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, sales took off and Bramwell himself became a folk hero in his home city.

And this year’s offering is their first visit to the Top 10, and has led to a summer of festival appearances with an expanded band – featuring a new brass section – including a triumphantly crowd-pleasing set at Glastonbury.

I Am Kloot play the main stage at this weekend’s Kendal Calling Festival in the Lake District.
