Trained British Cycling ride leaders set off this Sunday with a special family ride from the Picnic in the Park at Astley Park.

Organised by British Cycling and Sky, in partnership with Chorley Council, Sky Ride Local bike rides offer people the chance to join organised, guided rides of varying distances and difficulties – ranging from easy going routes through to ‘steady’ and ‘challenging’ rides, for those seeking a little more adventure.

This Sunday’s bike ride starts at 2pm and is a figure of eight loop from Astley Park to Buckshaw Village and back, using quiet roads and paths.

At seven miles long it’s an ideal family bike ride.

Rides will run in and around Chorley every weekend throughout the summer, giving you lots of options to explore your local area on your bike. You can see the full schedule of bike rides and book your free place on your chosen rides at www.goskyride.com/Chorley

What’s more, British Cycling has some great giveaways for anyone taking part in two or more Sky Ride Local bike rides until Sunday, August 3.

Just by coming along to two or more rides you can grab yourself some cool British Cycling gifts, including water bottles, neck buffs and the chance to win a VIP cycling experience to the Tour of Britain this September.

Caroline Gilbert, British Cycling’s Recreation Manager for Lancashire, said: “Cycling’s never been more popular, and whatever your age or fitness level, it’s easy to get involved.

“With the Tour de France on our doorstep, now you can do more than just watch the events – be inspired and get involved with Sky Ride Local in Chorley.

“We’re delighted to be working with Chorley Council to make it even easier for local people to get out on their bikes and have some fun this summer.”

Coun Bev Murray, who is responsible for leisure activities at Chorley Council, said: “Getting out and about on your bike is a good way of improving your fitness and enjoying the fresh air at the same time as having fun with family and friends.
