Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues’ decision last year to form a second big band is a great opportunity for anyone looking to gain experience playing as part of a large ensemble.

So far 14 players, 10 of them pictured, right, have been recruited to the cause.

Band director Paul J. Rigby, who is also responsible for the RV Jazz Collective, Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues’ first big band, said: “Our new members have applied themselves extremely well in such a short time.”

But Paul said a chance for the band to play at the Ribble Valley Jazz Festival on May Day Bank Holiday weekend depended on them recruiting more trumpeters and trombonists.

Membership of the band is open to anyone living in Lancashire who is prepared to make the journey to Clitheroe (rehearsals are at The Atrium Cafe Bar in the town) on Tuesday evenings, and take part in occasional public performances.

Musicians just need to be familiar and confident with their instruments, and be prepared to put in extra home-based practice as well as attending rehearsals regularly,” said Paul.

Players of any age are welcome. Email [email protected] for more details, call 07870 908159, or just turn up and introduce yourself at 7pm on a Tuesday.
