Get crafty

The Lancashire Wildlife Trust-managed reserve will be getting Wild about Reptiles on Saturday and Sunday (11am-3pm).

The North West Reptile Club will be bringing along a selection of reptiles, invertebrates and amphibians – you could even handle a snake or stroke a lizard.

Saturday also sees the No Ego Torch Challenge (6pm, £12 pre-booked/£15 on the day), which is a fun run around the trails – with a twilight twist.

Bring along your head torch and experience the paths, rugged terrain and woods of our nature reserve.

Monday, February 17 sees Brockholes play host to a craft workshop (1-3pm, £7.50), hosted by one of the region’s leading eco-artist, Chrissy Webster.

The theme for is Aboriginal Batik and youngsters will create colourful cloth designs using wax and dye.

The same afternoon is the Winter Bird ID walk (2-4pm, £3) with a reserve guides to learn all about the Winter Birds – including kingfisher, kestrel, great egret, heron and bittern.

Withy Lantern making sessions will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (11am-3pm)).

And it’s the Wonderful World of Mud is on Friday, from 2-4pm.

On Saturday, February 22, between 2-4pm, there will be a Junk Derby, where people can make and race cars built from recycled goods.

Finally, phew, there is the return of Birds of Prey to Brockholes Saturday/Sunday 22/23 (11am-3pm).
