Members of the public will be shown how to forage in a sustainable way, as well as taking a look at species that have both culinary and medicinal uses.

They will identify key species, like the delightful Wild Garlic and the tangy Wood Sorrel and possibly even some early fungi, and how to separate them from other species.

Ones that you could mistake for being edible will be looked at too.

The event is aimed at adults and there are limited spaces available, so pre-booking is essential.

And in just a few weeks time there is one of Brockholes’ annual highlights, the Dawn Chorus Walk (Saturday, May 17, 6am).

This is one occasion where the 6am start ensures the ‘early bird’ will catch the song!

Hearing the dawn chorus is a magical experience.

This early morning guided tour of the reserve is accompanied by a bird song expert, who will help you to identify birds from their calls.

With more than 60 species of bird recorded at Brockholes this week alone, there should be plenty to keep even the most experienced birder excited.

Following the walk it will be time to head to the restaurant at Brockholes’ iconic floating visitor village to enjoy a full English breakfast or a vegetarian option alternative.

The cost is £15 per person, which includes car parking too.
