Ingol-based Ken Nicol –widely hailed as one of the best guitarists in the UK – will present a special show on September 11 at the Village Hall in Walmer Bridge, near Preston to mark the release of his brand new solo album, titled ‘Things’.

Singer-songwriter Ken, who has more than 50 album credits, both in his own name and with various bands and other musicians, is a former member of folk-rock band Steeleye Span.

He will be joined at the launch by his former band mate Rick Kemp, bass player with the ‘All Around My Hat’ hit-makers, for the album launch show.

Other guests will be Ken’s regular duo partner, singer and guitarist Becky Mills — well known as a member of the groundbreaking all-female folk-rock band Waking The Witch — and pedal steel guitar ace Steve Conway.

Things, said Ken, is an album bursting with energy.

From ragtime romps to intense guitar rockers via romance, humour and a sassy, twinkle-eyed sexiness, Ken takes things old, new, borrowed and Blues and gives them his own inimitable twist.

Ken said: “Our lives are full of things — these things, those things — and for the title song of the album I wondered how many different kinds of ‘things’ I could name in four minutes.

“Things is a song about things and Things is an album about other things, and not just the things in Things!”
