The groundbreaking Leeds based Phoenix Dance Theatre bring Particle Velocity, a brand new mixed programme, featuring the world premieres of four diverse dance pieces, to Blackpool Grand on Sunday night.

Opening the programme is Douglas Thorpe’s Tender Crazy Love, an explosive duet set to a Tarantino-like soundtrack.

And the company will also perform a routine called All Alight (pictured above), a beautiful new work put together by Richard Alston which features seven dancers in an elegant, graceful dance set to the emotive score of Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Cello.

Combining martial arts and crafted choreography, Jose Agudo’s first work for Phoenix, the awe inspiring Ki, is a solo piece featuring dancer Josh Willie which tells the tale of one boy’s journey to become a legend.

And the programme’s finale arrives with Phoenix artistic director Sharon Watson’s latest work for the company - Repetition of Change.

Inspired by the structure of DNA, this is a complex, thought provoking and above all large-scale piece.

The Observer’s Luke Jennings was so impressed by the show that he wrote: “With new purpose-built premises in Leeds, and a charismatic director in Sharon Watson, the 10-strong ensemble is ready to take on the world.”
