Changing face of our countryside

His topic will be The history of Lancashire’s countryside, a look at how the landscape has evolved over the centuries, including issues such as enclosure, land drainage and agriculture.

Malcolm is the author of many books on a variety of topics ranging from fly fishing and birdwatching to local and natural history. His book The River Ribble: the history and natural history of a river (Carnegie Publishing, 2008) has become something of a regional classic.

When not in the countryside with his fly-fishing rods, nets and binoculars, Malcolm enjoys growing fruit and vegetables, cooking and eating good food, and drinking good wine. He hates cats that defecate on his vegetable patch, and most politicians and civil servants.

His illustrated talk on the history of Lancashire’s countryside is at Garstang United Reformed Church hall, on Wednesday, October 14 at 7.30pm.

Members and visitors are advised to arrive early as recent lectures at the society have attracted capacity audiences.
