Burlesque tease, not sleaze
Thrill seekers were taken through the decades by UClan’s Burlesque Society.
It was a case of tease rather than sleaze at the society’s end of year show at Preston’s Blitz nightclub where performers practised seductive routines to music ranging from classics such as Frank Sinatra, Elvis, and Adam and the Ants, to modern-day hits from Michael Buble , Paulo Nutini and Glee.
Society member Charlotte Connolly said: “Burlesque, which is often performed to predominantly female audiences, is a form of satire, and encourages a positive body image as performers are not required to be stick-thin, plastic surgery addicts, or even female!”
The society’s ‘Winter Wonderland’ show in January impressed so much that performers have since been scouted for shows across the UK.
