I’d say Sangam was the area’s best kept curry secret, but in truth I suspect the only one in the dark has been me.

Researching a place to review online it suddenly dawned I’d never tried a curry in nearby Lostock Hall.

Typed ‘curry’ ‘Lostock Hall’ into the search engine and voila – up pops a lengthy list of reviews and feedback, all singing praises. One visit later am adding my voice to the chorus.

Onion bhaji with salad – not shredded iceberg and a bit of lemon, salad – white and red cabbage, onion, lettuce, cucumber, tomato – got the ball rolling, and straight into the top corner of the net.

Light, crunchy so you heard yourself bite into them, six balls of crisp fried onion and seasoned flour I’d happily eat until they exited via my ears.

Main courses of chicken korma and chicken shashlick with pilau and a pillow-soft plain naan sealed the deal.

No sweetness in the korma just creamy nutty richness and heaps of tender meat.

The shashlick, big chunks of charred tikka meat, onion and red pepper – the veggies caramelised to unctuous black perfection – was joyous.

Served with a hearty vegetable curry, hunks of velvety root and warm spices, not a hope of finishing in one go, so a cracking leftover tea the following evening.

No hesitation pointing you in their direction. Order early though.

The secret is long out, you might be in for a wee wait.
