It's an anthology of extracts from travel experiences men and women have enjoyed from the 16th century up to the the present day.
There is an emphasis on the period of 1750 to 1950, which was the classic era for European exploration and diary writing. There are more than 200 featured writers from Charles Darwin to Alan Bennett and tales are told in a daily diary form, with pearls of wisdom from famous explorers to holidaymakers.
It really is a well thought out and inspiring book and one which will see the ardent traveller through the current bad weather!
