The 60ft long new stage, constructed by festival organisers from corrugated steel, will feature four huge turrets and a DJ booth high up in its loft.

Operating day and night throughout the festival, the new stage will boast a line up of stars, including The Dub Pistols (pictured here on the dance stage last year), Mumbai Science and Justin Robertson.

It will also be equipped with a high-powered sound system pumping dance beats at maximum volume. The Fortress will be in the pine copse, Toil Trees, at the heart of the festival site, which also holds the dance stage and Quality Street, a hand-built Victorian style street of shops, including a tattooists, a book store, a barber’s shop and an authentic pub.

The festival, from Friday, July 5 to Sunday, July 7 at Dockber Farm, near Clitheroe, is headlined this year by disco legends Chic, led by super producer Nile Rodgers, Mercury Prize winner Roni Size, and reggae and ska legend Jimmy Cliff.

For a full interview with Jimmy, famous for worldwide smashes including The Harder They Come and Many Rivers to Cross, see Thursday’s Evening Post.

Tickets are £105 for adults, £20 for children of 12 and
under, at www.beatherder.co.uk.
