Andy blows back up North

Ribble Valley-born Andy Greenwood is first trumpet in the smash musical Wicked.

On Saturday June 28 he swaps the West End stage for Burnley Mechanics as the youth orchestra’s special guest.

He said: “I was a member of the Jazz Orchestra from about 13. I had some great times and am looking forward to coming back to play with them again.”

Andy has played with many famous names, including Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight, Westlife, Shirley Bassey, The Who and George Michael.

He is a TV regular and has previously played in the BBC Big Band Orchestra and the Strictly Come Dancing house band.

He said: “From the moment I learned to play the trumpet I knew I wanted to be a professional musician.

“I’m living the dream, really. It’s a great and varied life.”

Stuart Grills, musical director, said: “The LYJO plays big band music across the whole spectrum, from such greats as Duke Ellington and Count Basie to present-day stars like Michael Bublé, Gordon Goodwin and even Robbie Williams.

“Lancashire Music Service runs a network of tuition and ensemble experience for students in schools and at music centres throughout the county.

“The best are offered the chance to play in one of the county ensembles, such as the Jazz Orchestra.”
