This Saturday sees Blackpool’s energetic punk/electro-hip-hop four piece The Karma Party take to the stage at Preston’s Ferret for the first time, although for front man Merc Werk it’s more of a homecoming.

Merc, real name Marc Walker, was formerly a member of popular local electro band Myth of Unity, who have headlined the venue several times, and considers it the strongest live music establishment in the city. The band are spending 2014 playing a number of festivals, including recently taking to the main stage at The Bearded Theory – a West Midlands festival that won UK’s best small festival last year – touring their new EP Illumination nationally and internationally, and working on material for their first full album.

The band’s last EP, Dark Matters, was reviewed favourably by music magazines Kerrang and Rocksound, and they have built up an impressive live reputation over the first two years of their existence supporting such bands as Sonic Boom Six and The Slackers.

Joining them on stage will be Sheffield’s Stop Drop Robot and Liverpool’s new offering Snowdrop. Stop Drop Robot are the most requested band on their live scene in South Yorkshire, including for the Tramlines festival and at The Harley – a Sheffield live venue – as well as having a popular following beyond their borders. Preston has been on their list of destinations to play for some time, singer Sam Christie informed us, and they can’t wait for the gig. Snowdrop are the brainchild of singer Larissa Bollig and debuted their first EP, Bruised, at this year’s Liverpool SoundCity Festival in The Cavern.

Merc is impressed with the line up local promoters Picturesound have assembled, and shows the diversity of music the Ferret is willing to showcase, as well as their dedication to live music.

The show is on Saturday 31st May, doors at 8pm and entry is free.
