This weekend I witnessed the climax of the fifth, and largest, Lytham Proms.

A tremendous evening of entertainment was delivered by the Halle orchestra with a string of guests including Michael Ball, Kerry Ellis on the eve of rejoining the Wicked cast in the West End, Rhydian, and the operatic brilliance of Lesley Garrett.

Lytham Green was filled with a sea of people, all equipped with seats and picnic gear.

It was a surprise to witness so many young children, all captivated by the performance on the stage ahead of them.

Despite the British summer living up to its name and, delivering a spell of wind and rain that briefly paused proceedings, it was those on the stage who truly delivered the knockout blow and proved once again that the show must go on!

The evening started in bright sunshine with Fylde’s Got Talent winner James Edger and a superb set from X Factor competitors Tenors of Rock.

The Halle then began to deliver a whole host of iconic tunes such as The Great Escape and lifting the crowd with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

The guests took it in turn to deliver outstanding vocals to match the incredible music, with Michael Ball’s Love Changes Everything bringing the crowd to its feet.

One of the biggest cheers of the night came for the family of the inspirational Stephen Sutton who were in the crowd and guest of Michael Ball.

The weekends entertainment was concluded in stirring style, with a last night of Lytham proms performance including Land of Hope and Glory.

All played their part, including the crowd waving a sea of flags, led by Lesley
Garrett resplendent in a Union Jack outfit accompanied by a superb firework display lighting up the sky.
