A night of honour to remember

‘Honour’ on The Quays at MediaCity in Salford will be the largest outdoor remembrance event of its kind this summer and is free to attend.

A response to the tragedy of ‘the war to end all wars’, the event features huge digital projections by international artists, contemporary dance, innovative audio theatre and specially written music.

Inspired by the wartime experiences of soldiers and civilians from Lancashire the event seeks to transport the audience to the battlefield in a hail of fireworks, rousing poetry and stirring song.

Music by acclaimed composer Andy Smith and conducted by Jeff Borradaile, draws inspiration from poets of the era and will be performed by a ‘super choir’, hundreds of voices raised in unison.

The audience will be led step-by-step through the experience of war, from young men signing up to serve in battle, to the feeling of claustrophobic damp in the trenches, the fears of families left behind, the terror of going over the top...

Fireworks will mimic the sounds of violence as, using MediaCity buildings as a giant projector screen, artists tell the story through image.

Sharon Watson of Phoenix Dance Theatre brings physical performance to the storytelling, siting dancers on plinths within the audience.

The nearby Imperial war Museum of the North will be open late on the evening of the performance.

Honour is on The Quays from 10pm Saturday August 2.
