Organisers of this first gig of the 2014 Friends of Folk programme are delighted to secure the veteran artist.

Organiser Jim Minall said: “It was great when Brian said yes to New Longton as a gig on his English tour. Those who have seen him at Feast of Fiddles concerts know what an outstanding talent he is.”

Over a career spanning almost half a century, Brian has become established as one of the most acclaimed forces in Scottish music. Born in 1950 in Falkirk, he has been described as ‘Scotland’s most meaningful contemporary songwriter’ (The Scotsman).

His influence as performer, composer, producer, teacher, musical director, band leader, novelist and interpreter of Scotland’s past, present and future, is incalcualble.

He has performed around the globe, both as a soloist and with hugely influential groups, including Battlefield Band, which he founded in 1969.

Brian performs and teaches regularly at many of the world’s major festivals and is a core member of the UK fiddle phenomenon, Feast of Fiddles.

Brian is certainly no stranger to touring England, but these days, his commitments seem to take him everywhere but, apart from the annual Feast of Fiddles Spring Tour and occasional festivals.

Says Brian: “I’ve had so many requests over the years to play in various English venues that I feel this tour is long overdue.

“English audiences tend to be very perceptive and discerning and the subject matter certainly doesn’t stop at any borders.”

Tickets are £12 each and, at time of writing, are also available on the door.
