Richard Ashcroft has today announced special guests for his long-awaited homecoming shows - performing for the first time in Wigan since 1998.

Joining him at Robin Park on Saturday, July 20 - sold out - will be Britpop legends Cast, Liverpool’s Red Rum Club and Wigan’s fast rising singer-songwriter Maxwell Varey.

Guests on Sunday, July 21 - an extra date due to demand - are multi-platinum selling band The Zutons, hotly tipped Welsh indie quartet The Royston Club and Wigan’s upcoming band Stanleys.

Saturday support Cast have just released their highly anticipated new album Love Is The Call.

Red Rum Club, who also head up the Saturday bill, will play their biggest UK headline show at the M&S Arena Liverpool next month in support of their Top 10 album Western Approaches.

Wigan’s own Maxwell Varey made his bold entrance onto the scene last year with his self-written and self-produced debut EP.

Sunday guests The Zutons play a huge set following their headline tour and new album release next month.

The Royston Club will also perform alongside Wigan’s upcoming band Stanleys, who are next in a long line of illustrious musicians to emerge from the North Western town.

These shows will be the first time Richard has performed in Wigan for over 25 years.

“After 25 years, I’m back playing in my hometown,” he says. “Looking forward to an amazing night in Wigan.”

Richard Ashcroft is a two-time Ivor Novello winner (Songwriter of the Year in 1998 and Outstanding Contribution to British Music in 2019) who has released five Top 5 solo albums, including the #1 debut Alone With Everybody.

He first came to attention with The Verve, with who he released one of the biggest albums of the era in the shape of Urban Hymns (the UK’s 18th biggest selling album of all-time) as well as a succession of anthems which remain staples of his live set today, including The Drugs Don’t Work, Bittersweet Symphony, Lucky Man and Sonnet.

His most recent album, Acoustic Hymns, was released in 2022 and reached number two in the UK Album Chart.

Robin Park is Wigan Warriors’ new multi-million pound facility, built in association with Wigan council.

Located next to The DW Stadium, Robin Park is just a 20 minute walk from Wigan town centre, and Wigan North Western train station.
