Body found in search for missing Blackpool woman Yvonne Cheston

A body has been found by police officers searching for a missing woman in Blackpool.

Police had been searching for Yvonne Cheston since the 67-year-old was reported missing last Friday (October 20).

She was last seen in Moss House Road, off Common Edge Road, at around 8.45am. There had been no other confirmed sightings of the 67-year-old since she disappeared five days ago.

Lancashire Police issued a number of appeals asking for the public’s help to find Yvonne and said they were “extremely concerned about her”.

Officers urged anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage which covers Moss House Road and Common Edge Road between 8.45am and 5pm on Friday to get in touch.

Sadly, her family confirmed that Yvonne was found in the early hours of this morning and has passed away.

Her body was found by police officers in the Ecclesgate Road area of the resort, less than a mile from where she was last seen.

Lancashire Police said her death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Facebook post on behalf of the family said: “It is with an extremely heavy heart that unfortunately, Yvonne has been found in the early hours of the morning, and she has sadly passed away.

“Everyone is heartbroken and cannot believe the news.

“The family are asking for privacy at the moment but say a huge thank you to everyone for their kindness and help.

“Yvonne was well known and loved by many, and this news will come as a shock to lots of people.

“Rest in peace Yvonne.”

Police statement

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “Very sadly, a woman’s body was found by police officers in the Ecclesgate Road area of Blackpool early this morning.

“While the body has not yet been formally identified, we believe it to be that of Yvonne.

"Her family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this sad and distressing time.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to HM Coroner in due course.”
