Fleetwood and Lancaster MP Cat Smith has said she is feeling unwell seven days after she reported her one-year-old son was 'showing symptoms' of coronavirus.

The Labour MP went into self-isolation with her family a week ago due to fears her son, Elijah, may have contracted the sickness.

She posted on social media today: "Day seven of family self isolating after the toddler got a cough. Day three of me feeling really unwell. I can’t climb the stairs without wheezing. No matter how much I sleep I still feel tired. Whatever germs the toddler brought into our home it’s worse than a cold."

She urged people to stay indoors to prevent possible further spreading of the virus.

As people took to Twitter to offer their support, she added: "The toddler has bounced back like they always do. It makes looking after him all the more difficult."
