A man was attacked by a group of men in Preston in broad daylight with an axe.

The victim, in his 40s, suffered a laceration to his hand, which police say they think was caused by an axe, and suspected head injuries.

Police were called to Moor Park where the group assault took place on Friday, July 13 at 5:30pm.

The victim was taken to hospital to receive treatment where he is in a stable condition.

PC William Smalley of Preston Police, said: “This has been a serious attack which has happened in broad daylight and I’d like to appeal to any witnesses, or anyone who saw anything suspicious, to come forward immediately.

“We know the park was busy at the time of the assault and are particularly keen to speak to two groups of potential witnesses.

“These include two men and a woman who were walking with a pram and a man who was wearing a high-vis top and walking a black Labrador and yellow Labrador.

“Our investigation is ongoing and I’d like to reassure the public that patrols have been stepped up in the area.”

An 18-year-old man from Preston has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and affray and is currently in police custody.
