A thug who bit and punched a woman in front of her child has been jailed for 18 months.

Anthony Kay, 41, formerly of Callon, Preston, had already been given a suspended jail term for hurling scalding soup at his partner and throttling her, Preston Crown Court heard.

After the attack he sent letters urging her to drop the charges.

Prosecuting, Joe Allman said: “On February 23, 2015 Kay was made subject to a 12 month suspended jail sentence.

“On December 1, 2016, the woman was at home with her daughter, who was then two, at Samuel Street, where she was living with the defendant.

“At around 4.35pm Kay started demanding her phone so that he could pawn it.

“She refused and told him she wasn’t going to give him the phone, because she couldn’t call police if he attacked her.

“She was upstairs with her child when the defendant ran upstairs said she was a useless mum and began to throttle her.

“She knew through past experience just to lie there and he stopped.

“He went downstairs and she took the opportunity to go into her daughter’s room.

“He then came back up grabbed her neck and punched her in the face.

“He headbutted her and then ran out of the house.”

The woman suffered bruising, scratches to her eyes and a nosebleed. She also says he bit her ear during the assault.

Kay was arrested in Preston and remanded.

But in the run up to trial he contacted his victim by letter trying to persuade her to drop the charges, saying: “ I hope you can still love me.”

In another letter to a friend he tells him to ‘make her see sense’ because his suspended sentence would be activated.

Kay admitted assault by beating and perverting the course of justice.
