A Lancashire mum is appealing for a football chant that has spread across the nation to reach number one, boosting funds for her son.
Emma Kendrick, who grew up in Preston, will be keeping an eye on the charts as The Will Grigg’s On Fire song has been released by Blonde and Latics superfan Sean Kennedy, in aid of Joseph’s Goal.
Emma and her husband Paul set the charity up for seven-year-old Joseph who has NHK (Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia), a rare life-limiting genetic disorder that severely affects his development.
The chant, an adaptation of Gala’s Freed From Desire, was started by Wigan Athletic fans in support of player Will Grigg. With the help of Sean and club chairman David Sharpe, Blonde put together some new lyrics based on suggestions from fans and recorded the song with vocalist Zak Abel.
The track, credited to DJ Kenno (aka Sean), went live earlier this week and climbed intp the Top 10.
Emma, 39, who now lives in Wigan, said: “We are immensely proud and hopeful it will do well for Joseph’s Goal. It was very kind of Sean Kennedy to suggest raising money for Joseph’s Goal, which has strong links with the club. We hope it does really well.”
Blonde member Jacob Manson said: “It is a great idea to get fans involved with the lyrics and raise as much as we can.”
