A hotel in Manchester was evacuated after reports of a suspicious package in the vacinity.

Greater Manchester Police and explosive ordnance disposal teams (EOD) attended the scene at around 5:30pm at the Premier Inn hotel in Victoria Bridge Street, across from the Manchester Cathedral.

Victoria Bridge Street was closed and police urged people to avoid the area.

At 6:30pm, following an investigation from police and EOD, the package was confirmed as not suspicious.

A GMP spokesman said: "Staff and guests are being invited back into the hotel. Thank you for your co-operation."
