There was great excitement in Charlotte Cropper’s house on Saturday night as friends and family gathered around the television to see her in her first TV appearance.

The 18-year-old from Bamber Bridge, near Preston, appeared on primetime Saturday night TV show Take Me Out.

She appeared alongside other young women looking for love on the ITV programme.

The former Cardinal Newman College student, who is well known for her fight to save Wesley Street Mill in Bamber Bridge, spent 12 days in Kent filming the programme late last year.

Saturday night was her first appearance on the show when a space was freed up after another contestant departed.

Charlotte, who works as an insurance underwriter in Manchester, one day hopes to become an MP.

She said: “I had some family round and we watched it on our new TV we bought to watch me on the big screen.”

But the teenager said she didn’t enjoy seeing herself on the box.

She added: “I absolutely hated seeing myself on TV. I’ve spent the morning rewinding the TV and pausing it and thinking, ‘Do I really look like that?’ I’m sure I’ll get used to it though.”

Charlotte didn’t bag a date this week and is keeping tight lipped over whether or not she will do in the coming weeks but she has revealed that on two occasions in the show she makes it to the final two.

This week’s episode saw her mention her ambitions to become and MP.

She added: “I’ve had loads of support from friends and family. My friends are excited about seeing me on TV and being able to tell everyone that they know someone on TV.

“I’m not to sure if I regret going on it yet – ask me that question in a few weeks!”

Charlotte was one of 1,000 people to be interviewed for the show and one of the 90 chosen to appear on the popular programme, which is hosted by TV favourite Paddy McGuinness. She will appear on five more episodes.
