Euxton scouts set out on charity mission

The scouts voted the hospice, in Chancery Road as their chosen charity of the year to help raise vital funds as part of their ‘Patrol Charity Challenge.’

Now they are organising a charity auction and are calling on generous businesses and organisations to help donate prizes to the cause.

The auction evening will take place on June 23 and will be held at Chorley FC Victory Park. The evening will include live music from ‘The Distance’ as well as a hotpot supper, bar, raffle and the auction.

Scout leader Dan Gosling said: “When the Scouts learnt about the amazing work of Derian House on their doorstep, they felt that there could be no better focus for their efforts.

“We want the Scouts to come up with their own ideas for fundraising, we are encouraging them to take ownership and be creative in their suggestions. It doesn’t matter whether ideas are small or large, but the Scouts are being asked to drive this rather than the leaders.”

The patrol charity challenge is an inter-patrol competition, which requires the Scouts to raise as much money as they can, both collectively and individually.

Leaders have set-up patrol thermometers on the noticeboard in the hall, to record progress and show which patrol is leading the race to become supreme charity challenge champions.Already the scouts have raised more than £800 from cake sales, sponsored running and cycling events.

The challenge will also work towards the scout’s world challenge award and ultimately their chief scout gold award.

Dan added: “We thought it would be great to arrange a night at the end of June, when the Scouts have completed their individual fund-raising activities, where we could celebrate their achievements and present some small awards.

“The night has since grown into a charity auction and social event which will be attended by 200 people

“We have been lucky enough to receive support from prominent local businesses such as The Eric Wright Group, Matthews & Leigh, PAR Group and Global Engineering who have helped us stage the event and other businesses have supported us by providing auction items. We are still looking for more help though to make the evening a massive success!”

The evening is on Friday June 23 starting at 6.30pm. A family ticket is £10, adults £5, children £2
