Musical theatre’s record-breaking show Wicked flies into Salford for four weeks from next Wednesday, its final dates of the current UK and Ireland tour.
The West End and Broadway phenomenon tells the story of the Witches of Oz, and around the world has been seen by 47 million people in 13 countries and won 100 international awards.
The Wicked cast is led by Ashleigh Gray as Elphaba and Emily Tierney as Glinda, who are joined by ex-Brookside star Steven Pinder, as The Wizard/Dr Dillamond and Marylin Cutts, who appeared in the 2012 film Les Miserables, as Madame Morrible.
Wicked’s cast of more than 30, includes several North West actors and the show was recently honoured by UK theatregoers with the This Morning Audience Award at the 2015 Oliviers.
Based on the international best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire the show re-imagines the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and tells the story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students.
The play runs at the Lowry from June 3 to July 25 with several matinees but it is only recommended for children aged seven upwards.
