A North West theatre company which combines puppetry with live actors is to bring a new show to Preston in the New Year.

Manchester’s acclaimed Horse + Bamboo Theatre company brings its interpretation of Hans Christian Andersen fairytale The Nightingale to the city’s New Continental on Thursday, February 21.

The company will give a 2.30pm matinee performance of the production, which uses puppetry, masks, actors and original music. Directed by Alison Duddle, designed by Bob Frith and with music composed by Chris Davies, the show is aimed at children over four years old.

Horse + Bamboo last visited the Continental in September with the remarkable tale of Angus, Weaver of Grass, the true story of a Hebridean Islander who, traumatised by the First World War, spent his life in an institution, never speaking but weaving amazing garments from grass.

Tickets for The Nightingale are £6.50 from the Continental on 01772 499 425.
