Preston's X Factor star Charlotte Lily is set to compete in next month's Miss Lancashire final

Preston's resident X Factor star is looking to temporarily swap her guitar for a ball gown and crown as she aims to win the annual Miss Lancashire competition.

Singer-songwriter Charlotte Lily, from Penwortham, is a finalist in next month’s Miss Lancashire final at Preston Playhouse on Sunday, January 20.

The 21-year-old took the decision after writing a bucket list of things she wanted to do after competing in the Six Chair Challenge on this year’s X Factor.

“I wouldn’t be performing without learning how to from busking on the streets of Lancashire, so I have such a huge love for the area.

"The venues in this county shaped who I am as a performer.”

As part of her campaign, Charlotte is raising funds for Variety, The Children’s Charity North West, who help to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people.

It’s seen her perform throughout Preston including at the Christmas lights switch-on and the Disability Equality Festival at Preston Minster.

She said: “My goal was £500 and so far I’ve raised £600.

“If I was to win Miss Lancashire I want to inspire other young girls who have dreams which seem hard to reach to never give up as anything is possible.

"And if I won Miss Lancashire I would get to take part in Miss England where I have my goals set on winning the talent award.

"Hopefully it could open another door in my music, and I would get to support my local community and charities at the same time."
