Three Preston music-lovers are toasting the life of a friend who died of bowel cancer with a quirky movie-themed fund-raiser.
Greg Braysford, Leona Bylinski and Ric Birtill are keeping ablaze the sparkling ethos of Ben Ashworth – to live vibrantly – by cruising back to the 50s for an epic night of rock and roll.
“The event is a celebration of Ben’s legacy and spirit,” said Greg.
“He was one of my best buddies and after his diagnosis he became a superhero, running multiple marathons and championing three different charities.”
The trio is inviting all kittens and tomcats to glam up in their biker jackets and swing dresses and jive the night away at the Back To The Future:
Enchantment Under the Sea Dance in aid of Ben’s Bowel Movements.
New “supergroup”, The Starlighters, has been formed especially for the occasion by Ric Birtill, Jackpot Jim and Jackpot Mike and will offer an exclusive performance, while DJs will spin rock and roll hits from the 1950s.
Bringing the iconic world of Marty McFly and Doc Brown to life in a comical recreation is The Pop Up Puppet Cinema, while a silent screening of the original Spielberg film will also be played.
Topping off the event are photo opportunities with Back To The Future props, a display of film memorabilia, an appearance from George McFly and a best-dressed competition.
And of course no American high school dance is complete without servings of punch.
So doll up in your top throwbacks from 1955 or 1985 or dress like your favourite character for a night of magical madness.
And for Greg, there’s no better place to throw this fun-filled bash than at Preston’s New Continental.
“It was Ben’s local and even when he was poorly he would still venture out there to meet his friends,” Greg added.
And it’s clear the father-of-three’s legacy lives on in those who loved him, the three organisers leading the way in getting into the spirit of the occasion.
“The event will be a tribute to the 50s in a fun and cartoonish way and I’ll be shaving off my beard and dressing up as Marty,” said Greg.
It will be held on Sunday, August 27th from 7pm - 1am at the South Meadow Lane venue in Preston.
