It’s a coveted job warming up the vocal chords of thousands of screaming teenage pop fans but someone’s got to do it.

Young Lancashire singer-songwriter Mike Dignam has announced he will be supporting top pop band Lawson on their UK tour.

The 22-year-old, from Longton, landed the dream gig with the boyband, who had three Top 10 singles in 2012, after
impressing the lads with his support slots for chart-topping artists Gabrielle Aplin and Lewis Watson.

Many of the concerts on the 15-date tour, which will stretch from Bournemouth to Belfast, have already sold out.

Mike said: “I’ve known for ages and it’s exciting to be able to talk about it at last.

“Lawson and I have quite a similar sound and all the tours they have done
before have sold out.

“It’s mind-blowing to play those kind of shows. I’ve done tours playing to 200 to 300 people but this is 2,000 people a night.

“It’s on a different level.”

Mike has also written the first single for Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalists The Mend, which is due to be released in March.

He said: “The Mend are going on tour with Little Mix so my song will be heard by 50,000 to 60,000 people over a few months.

“I just love music and it excites me to know someone will be playing a song I wrote for them.

“We’re really taking a massive jump into the mainstream.”

Mike, who recently moved to
Southport, has also recently completed a solo tour and released an EP, Paint.

He has been playing guitar since his dad bought him his first instrument at the age of seven.

The former Longton County Primary and Tarleton High School pupil got his big break after winning a competition to appear at music industry festival Music Week and then opening the Rock in the Park concert at Avenham Park in 2009.

Mike added: “People might see me at shows and tours and think I suddenly
appeared but there is so much work
behind it over years and years.”
